Pharmacy is the science concerned with therapeutic substances – their   discovery, origin and nature, their development into medicines and their use in disease prevention and treatment. Pharmacy also denotes the profession which uses its unique knowledge of medicines in the service of society.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree is designed to provide graduates with the core skills and knowledge required for effective delivery of pharmaceutical care and the ability to proceed to research. The degree covers the study of the chemical, physical, pharmaceutical, and pharmacological properties of medicinal substances and the application of these in the pharmacy profession.

Pharmacy is one of the main disciplines under Biomedical Sciences and the Pharmaceutical Industry. Pharmacy is also related to health sciences. It is the profession responsible for the preparation, dispensing and appropriate use of medication which provides services to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes. Pharmacists are concerned with production of pharmaceutical products, development of the methods or processes of production and quality control.

The course of Pharmaceutical Sciences for B. Pharm. is designed to achieve the following targeted objectives:
  1. Provide adequate educational background for rewarding careers in pharmacy profession.
  2. Study and strengthen the existing pharmacy practices in the private and public sector organizations through continuous education and training programs.
  3. Assist pharmaceutical and related organizations in solving their problems by providing consultancy services.
  4. Contribute to pharmacy literature relevant to Nepal through research and publications.
 
Career Opportunities
The role of the Pharmacists is expanding day by day. On the other hand, the number of Pharmacists in Nepal is quite limited. Therefore, there is a great employment opportunity for the Pharmacists within Nepal or in foreign countries.
A career in pharmacy can be versatile and highly rewarding. Pharmacy graduates can choose to work mainly with people, by using their unique knowledge and skills in patient care. Pharmacists supply medicines, provide medicines, health information and advice, and help to manage long-term illness. Pharmacy graduates can also choose to focus mainly on products .
