It was a day of live music and good food at the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) Food Festival 2011 on Aug 21. The festival—one that NATHM has been organising annually since 2003—was sponsored by Golden Gate International College and held on NATHM’s premises in Rabi Bhawan.

The day-long festival saw performances by Mukti and Revival, Cobweb, Mt 8848 as well as a number of other local bands. The B-Boying and bike stunts were a unique addition to the event. There were also stalls featuring face painting, fake tattoos and nail painting.

“Today’s event would not have been possible without mutual cooperation and team work. Organising such events will help us learn more about event management and hospitality,” said Suvekchya Khatri, one of the organisers.

One of the main attractions of the event was the vegetable and fruit carving competition, where Shangri La Hotel bagged the first position, followed by Hotel Radission and Annapurna in second and third respectively.

“The gala allows Hotel Management (HM) students to acquire some practical skills in the field,” said Angela Bhatta, a teacher of HM at Quest International College. Altogether 10 educational installs, 39 food stalls and some game installs were part of the event.
