Corruption is a serious crime that can undermine social and economic development in all societies. No country, region or community is immune. According to the recently published corruption perception index 2011by Transparency International; Nepal is the second most corrupt country in South Asia after Afghanistan and 154th Least corrupt Nation, among 183 countries evaluated.
On 31 October 2003, the United Nation General Assembly designated 9 December as International Anti-Corruption Day, to raise awareness of corruption and of the role of the Convention in combating and preventing it. The Convention entered into force in December 2005.
On his message on International Anti-Corruption day Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that, "On this International Anti-Corruption Day, let us pledge to do our part by cracking down on corruption, shaming those who practice it and engendering a culture that values ethical behaviour."
