Kathmandu: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrested, Ram Kumar Singh, dean of Medical Faculty of the Purbanchal University, reportedly for misusing his authority during an entrance examination.
Earlier, students of PU had found Singh with representatives of private institutions at a room of Hotel Vision in Kathmandu, where they had been checking papers of the recently conducted entrance examination of BSc Nursing and Bachelor of Pharmacy.
A group of students, led by the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNFSU-R), had found Singh helping the representatives of private education institutions in selecting the students they wanted to enroll in the both the programmes run by the university. They locked Singh inside the hotel room and informed the CIAA about the case.
“We have arrested Singh and two others from private institutes on Wednesday and they are in our custody,” said CIAA Spokesperson Ishwori Paudyal. He informed that the CIAA will start investigation from Thursday.
Singh was found checking the exam papers with private parties at the hotel room when the students sneaked in through on Tuesday evening. It has come to light that the group, which was checking the papers from exam centres in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj, was drunk and beer bottles were strewn all over the room.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, PU cancelled the entrance examinations of the two centres and said that a decision to this effect will be taken soon.
