Ten TU constituent colleges sans chiefs

Posted: Jan 06, 2012 | Category: University News

The post of campus chief at 10 of the Tribhuvan University constituent colleges has remained vacant for a month.

Filling the vacant positions has been delayed as the varsity is reverting to the old practice of appointing academics with political leaning towards the party that is at the helm in the campus unions, critics say.

Guna Nidhi Neupane, rector at TU, said as varsity officials were appointed only a few days ago, it was taking time to assess the situation. “We were appointed recently. We are reviewing the process and collecting names of possible candidates for the post, “ he said.

He also stated that since the appointment of senior officials at the university was based on political power sharing, there was a high probability that campus chiefs would also be appointed the same way.

Bhawana Bajracharya, chief of Information Division at the country’s oldest university, said the tenure of campus chiefs Jagat Krishna Pokharel (Sanothimi Campus), Gopal Chandra Pokharel (Ratna Rajya Campus), Yadav Prasad Pant (Vishwo Bhasha Campus), Lekhnath Sharma (Gorkha Campus), Bala Ram Khadka (Surkhet Campus), Bijaya Prakash Mahara (Doti Campus) had expired on November 30. She further said that the tenure of Kapil Dev Lamichhane (Bhairahawa Campus) and Ananda Raj Silwal (Dhaulagiri Campus) expired on December 3.

The university has appointed Rudra Sharma as acting campus chief at Ratna Rajya Campus. However, outgoing campus chiefs in other colleges have been told to look after their respective campuses until TU decides whom to appoint, she said.

Meanwhile the tenure of campus chiefs in five campuses - four inside the Valley and one outside - is going to end within a week.

Bajracharya said the tenure of campus chiefs Diwakar Pokharel (Nepal Commerce Campus), Netra Dhital (Mahendra Ratna Campus), Narayan Khadka (Amrit Science Campus), Iren Shrestha (Padma Kanya Campus) and Jib Narayan Jha (Mahendra Morang Campus) was also going to end by January 14.
