Posted: Feb 04, 2012 | Category: Special Day

On the occasion of World Cancer Day February 4, Sankalpa, Medical Mercy Canada, Social Action Volunteers Kanti, Association of Parents of Children Affected by Cancer, Dirghajeevi Kanti and Ullens Theatre for Service jointly organized a program for young cancer patients at Kanti Children’s Hospital on Saturday.

The program included young cancer patient undergoing treatment and those who are treated and leading a normal life and their parents. Ullens Theatre for Service performed an untitled play for the audience.

This year the theme of world cancer day is, “Together It Is Possible” with the aim of reducing cancer chances among children by 25percent all over the world by 2025.

Dr Kailash Shah from Oncology Department of Kanti Bal Hospital informed, “It is time that we work together to fight against cancer rather than merely talking about it.

Cancer is a curable disease and if all people are cautious, prevention is possible. Regular treatment can cure cancer; it’s not a forbidden illness anymore. People should come to the doctors rather than foolishly believing in shamans. If the people console and motivate each other more people will come forward for treatment.”

One of the members of Medical Mercy Canada, Elsy James, who has been helping Kanti Children’s Hospitals in terms of funding said, “These are the most beautiful children in the world and they deserve a chance to grow up and have a happy life with equal treatment.”

The World Cancer Day theme also affirms, to promote cancer preventions programs, one should encourage the intake of clean, healthy, unadulterated food, avoid the of use of tobacco and its marketing among children and help children grow in healthy and pollution-free environment.
