The Prime Minister, who is also the Chancellor of Mid West University, appointed Prof. Dr. Biju Kumar Thapalia as Vice-Chancellor of Purbanchal University.

The Government of Nepal, recognizing the importance of a fair and transparent selection process, formed a committee under the coordination of Minister of Education Suman Shrestha. After a thorough presentation and interview conducted on 12th and 13th Baisakh, this committee recommended the Vice-Chancellor of Purbanchal University.
The committee has recommended the names of Prof. Dr. Mahesh Raj Dahal, Prof. Dr. Devi Prasad Bhattarai, and Dr. Biju Kumar Thapalia. Dr. Thapalia has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Management at Purbanchal University.
