India has agreed to provide Rs 40.57 million grant to Madan Ashrit Memorial Foundation to construct a three storied hostel building for Madan Ashrit Memorial Technical School.

The District Administration Office (DEO), Siraha has warned of shutting down unregistered schools in the district. The office decided to take such an action after an investigation led by the office showed that the unregistered schools in the district far outnumbered the registered ones. 

As students rush for admission to schools across the country, the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday issued separate letters to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Department of Commerce to up their vigil against anomalies in textbook prices and admission fees particularly in private schools.

The government’s plan to enroll students with books in their hands could not materialise in many districts due to failure on the part of Janak Shikshya Samagri Kendra (JSSK) to supply textbooks on time.

Nine-year-old Suresh Chepa dropped out of school after class two. He is interested rather in grazing cattle. Moreover, that is what his parents want of him. "Grazing cattle is far more enjoyable than attending school," Suresh grins. "We have a dozen cattle and I can go for swimming while I take them out to graze," he adds. 

The drive aims to admit 6.7 million students in schools in the upcoming academic session. “The government has decided to run the campaign to provide primary education to around 40,000 children between the age of five and 12 years of age,” said Mahashram Sharma, director general at the Department of Education.

The agitating teachers’ organisations Thursday reached an agreement with the government and called off their protest programmes scheduled earlier to get their demands fulfilled. The teachers called off their protests after reaching an agreement with the Ministry of Education (MoE), in the presence of chief whips and education department chiefs of major political parties.

Minister of State for Education Lila Bhandari has said although financial assistance has been given to the community schools from the state, their condition is deteriorating day by day and could be extinct like dinosaurs one day.
