Two students studying at Ranipauwa Secondary School in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality-1 of Dhading have built a four-wheeled electric vehicle. Saurabh Basaula and Sushil Adhikari, studying in class 10, built an electric vehicle.

The vehicle can carry a weight of more than 200 kilograms and took two weeks to build, said Vassala, a student involved in building the vehicle.

“When our science teacher gave us information about electric cars in class, we thought we could make one too, so we built one together,” said Adhikari. “We constructed this using parts from scrapped vehicles.”

The car was assembled using purchased and locally available materials. The vehicle can accommodate up to three people including the driver. Equipped with two 250-watt motors and two 12-volt batteries, the car can operate in mountainous terrain for up to two hours on a single charge. The higher the voltage of the battery, the more load it can carry, according to the students who participated in building the vehicle.

The students say that if they receive support, they can build a more advanced electric vehicle than the current one. The Tripurasundari Rural Municipality will bear the expenses incurred by the buses and officers during the construction of electric vehicles. Village chairman Raju Upreti said that he was impressed by the work of the students. He said that the budget of the 'President with students program' will provide necessary support to increase the capacity of students of any school in the village.

The municipality and school praised both students who created the car. Chairman Upreti presented them with their prize money. Representatives, parents, and teachers who attended the vehicle demonstration program had the experience of driving a car led by Basaula and Adhikari. Before building the car, they built an electric robot that could sense rain and flooding, which was put on display by Bhuvan Upreti, a science teacher at the school.
